NBA players and coaches share how sleep shapes athletic performance.
Sleep is your superpower: COCO-MAT’s new video series

It’s no secret that quality sleep influences every part of our daily lives. It fuels recovery, supports mental clarity, stabilizes mood and ultimately shapes how we perform, both physically and mentally. Sleep is the foundation of every achievement, the first “training session” of the day and the most essential tool for recovery.

With this belief at the heart of what we do, we created “Sleep is your superpower”, a new video series featuring short interviews with top NBA athletes and coaches who speak about the true power of good sleep.

Despite their different journeys, every one of them agreed on one thing: sleep is the strongest performance tool an athlete has, because it:

•    accelerates physical recovery
•    improves focus and mental sharpness
•    sustains long-term performance
•    supports emotional balance in high-pressure moments
•    sets the foundation for every great appearance on the court

And this shared truth becomes even clearer through their own words:

•    Norman Powell (Miami Heat) – NBA Champion

NBA Champion and one of the league’s most explosive scorers, Norman Powell knows that quality sleep fuels both body and mind. For him, rest is the key to faster recovery, sharper reactions and consistent performance, on and off the court.

•   Phil Handy – Assistant Coach, Dallas Mavericks

Three-time NBA Champion and one of the league’s most respected development coaches, Phil Handy has mentored some of the game’s greatest players including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kyrie Irving. He knows that recovery is what separates good from great. Sleep allows the body to heal, reset and perform at its highest potential. For him, it starts with a simple habit: leaving your phone outside the bedroom!

•    Othello Hunter – Former EuroLeague Player

EuroLeague Champion and mentor, Othello Hunter believes sleep is non-negotiable. It’s the number one priority for recovery, focus and mental clarity. The true source of strength behind every performance.

•    Tyler Relph – NBA Skills Coach

A former Division I point guard turned elite trainer, Tyler Relph has worked with top NBA and WNBA players to sharpen their game. He’s seen firsthand how focus and rest go hand in hand. For athletes, sleep is muscle recovery, mental clarity and the key to long-term growth. His rule: stay consistent - same time to sleep, same time to rise!

•    Fred VanVleet (Houston Rockets) – NBA Champion & All-Star

Fred VanVleet, NBA Champion and All-Star guard, built his success on focus and routine. He treats sleep as part of his training; a daily ritual that restores energy, improves focus and prepares him to perform at his best.

•     Derek Fisher – 5× NBA Champion & Coach

Five-time NBA Champion and respected leader, Derek Fisher sees sleep as the most powerful recovery tool an athlete has. For him, sleep is: preparation, balance and the foundation of long-term performance.

•     Isaiah Thomas – 2× NBA All-Star

Two-time NBA All-Star and one of basketball’s most inspiring comeback stories, Isaiah Thomas embodies resilience and heart. He knows that rest fuels recovery and keeps the mind sharp. His message to young athletes: never underestimate the power of sleep…especially when it’s on a COCO-MAT bed.
With “Sleep is your superpower”, we highlight once again a truth we deeply believe: When you sleep well, you perform better, at every level.

This series is one of COCO-MAT’s most significant communication initiatives to date, marking the first time a natural mattress brand collaborates so closely with personalities of this magnitude from the world of professional sports.
