COCO-MAT’s global initiative “Give your old sheets a second life” has now come to life. Launched earlier this year on the occasion of Earth Day, the project aims to promote circular economy practices and remind us that even the simplest materials can be transformed into something meaningful again.
In October 2025, COCO-MAT completed its first donation to the Attica Centre for Child Protection “Mitera” in Athens; an organization with a long-standing mission to protect children without a family environment.
The linen collected from COCO-MAT stores throughout the campaign were carefully cleaned and sterilized in collaboration with Spick & Span, before being repurposed into soft toys and small pillows. Through this process, materials that once offered comfort in someone’s home found a new purpose, bringing smiles to children who need it most. Alongside these upcycled creations, COCO-MAT also donated blankets & kids bed linen from its collections, further extending the positive impact of the initiative.
Sustainability in action
For COCO-MAT, sustainability is also about acting responsibly and giving back. This initiative proves that circular economy principles can go hand-in-hand with human connection, turning what once seemed “waste” into a gesture of care.
As Maria Lagou, Head of Marketing at COCO-MAT, noted:
“Through this initiative, we wanted to show that change can start from something very simple, even from an old sheet. We didn’t just talk about it; we made it happen, turning something considered ‘useless’ into something that brings joy where it’s truly needed.”
The initiative continues
The “Give your old sheets a second life” initiative is still ongoing. Customers can continue to bring their old linen to participating COCO-MAT stores, contributing to future upcycling projects and upcoming donations to organizations that support children and families in need.
