From October 15 to November 15, during our COCO-MAT PillowSophy month, we will be talking about the importance and the benefits of a good pillow, and how you can find a pillow that is perfect for you.

For this campaign, COCO-MAT has reached an agreement with the Dexeus Foundation for Women's Health and joined the International Day against Breast Cancer. For a whole year COCO-MAT will be donating a little heart-shaped pillow to all women diagnosed with breast cancer at the Clinica Dexeus of Barcelona.

The Heart Pillow is a pillow, made with wool and cotton, shaped like a heart, which is placed under the arm by recently operated breast cancer patients. It helps ease their post-surgery pain and discomfort and it is also a valuable emotional support. Drawings and Dreams... Art Exhibition in Thessaloniki

Paintings, drawings and sketches, decorated with ornaments and materials, tell us a fairytale story of innocence and joy. Artist Eleonora Varati is presenting her work at our COCO-MAT store in Thessaloniki, Greece, and invites us to join her on a fascinating journey.
The artist's forms are influenced by her deep emotional attachment to colours, neo-romantism and the transformation of materials. Everyday objects are used in unconventional ways, the colours seem to fade and a nostalgic feeling of our childhood years emerges.

The object in the painter's work, petit girls and little misses, reflects her love for her two daughters, childlike innocence and everything that is pure and authentic, regardless of whether it is real. Dreams, wishes, fairytales, velvet and lace, materials and forms, intertwine and give us new forms, new impressions, new feelings.

Eleonora Varati's work will be exhibited at our COCO-MAT store in Diagonios, Thessaloniki, Greece until the end of Fall 2012.

Music night with contemporary Greek artists

COCO-MAT invites you to a unique night of contemporary Greek music, performed by Stratos Achlatis and Costas Baltazanis, on Thursday, September 20, at 7:00 pm.

Join us for an exquisite performance, dressed in the beautiful music of the great Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis. Stratos Achlatis and Costas Baltazanis will be performing Magnus Eroticus, a collection of songs and poems by Nobel prize winning poets such as Odysseas Elytis and Constantine Kavafis, as well as Myrtiotissa, Giorgos Sarantaris, Nikos Gatsos, Sapfo, Pandelis Prevelakis, and Giorgos Hortatzis. "Magnus Eroticus is a popular god, who lives in our imagination from the moment we are born until we die; beautiful, youthful and perpetually alive" says Manos Hadjidakis.

The two musicians - Stratos Achlatis (vocals) and Costas Baltazanis (guitar) - are coming from different backgrounds in music styles such as Argentinian Tango, Operetta, Balkan music and Jazz, yet they manage to combine their artistic voices into one colorful melody, represting of the finest samples contemporary Greek music has to offer.

Enjoy a truly unique experience; a melodic journey through time and the timelss genius of Greek poetry and culture.

On July 23rd, COCO-MAT SoHo opens its doors to welcome Greek artist, Theo Christodoulou and his breathtaking work entitled "Greek Light" until August 31st. His photographs tell the story of how blessed the Greek landscape is with amble sun and a sense of natural freedom. Tales of light and nature that will wrap you in a warm feeling, like when you see some long-forgotten friend from the past.

A few words about Shanti Hauptmann:

Shanti came to New York from northern California to complete her 200-hour level hatha yoga teacher training, with Tara Glazier at Abhaya Yoga in September 2010. In California, she was blessed to have begun her training with international teachers Kenny Graham and Sianna Sherman and tantric scholar Chris (Hareesh) Wallis.

Trained in modalities that emphasize optimal alignment in the body, mind, heart, and spirit by way of the Universal Principles of Alignment, Shanti is committed to translating her own found freedom to her students in a contemplative and playful way.

Having been raised in a life of wellness and spirituality, she finds herself at home when taking the seat of the yoga teacher. She is passionate about deepening her understanding of life and committed to being in alignment with the Highest. Always a student, Shanti deepens her knowledge of the yogic path by further studying with: Tara Glazier, Sianna Sherman, Elena Brower, Kenny Graham, Jane Fryer, Elias Lopez Garcia, Jorja Rivero, Bill Mahoney, Douglas Brooks, Ellen Saltonstall.

We are proud to welcome Greek artist Sofia Kyriakou in our shop in SoHo, from June 30 until July 7. The exhibition showcases paintings and portraits from the period 2002-2012.Her work touches on the principles of modernity, overlooking any stylistic classifications in order to present a portrait with numerous variations. At times her work is wild and furious while meeting the limits of simplicity. It is both primitive and futuristic while touching on intangible spirituality.

The artist
Sofia Kyriakou (1974) lives and works in Athens, Greece. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens, and at the Erasmus Faculty of Fine Arts of the Barcelona University. She teaches Art in the department of Applied and Visual Arts in Florina, Greece. Her work was also been exhibited in Amsterdam.

"I research my field using composite materials with different techniques and themes,to create art works which reconstruct the existential search with the deeper meaning of the materials themselves. My materials, sometimes real and other times painted, are transformed into pure painting. Real materials, many times, are set next to the paintings, composing the whole with the expressiveness and the functionality of the partial elements. The contours, the color spots and the collage compose the painting material, forming a new reality"

Bicycle event for kids at Chania

Join us on Friday, June 6 for a fun and educational event. We are looking forward to welcome you and your children for an event on bicycles and children, organized in cooperation with the Cultural Association of Pithari Chania.

We will learn how to drive our bikes with caution and how to keep safe. We will talk to our young friends about the road rules and share some very handy safety tips. And, more importantly, we will enjoy our bicycles and have as much fun as possible! Play, run around, have a snack and celebrate our love for bicycles. No matter how old we are!

We will be very happy to welcome children and parents on Friday, June 6, at 18:00, at the Chania store. Games, bicycles, balloons, treats, surprises and presents will be expecting us!

From the 12th to the 19th of May you can visit our store and make your own pillow with natural rubber flakes, lavender, seaweed, and/or eucalyptus leaves for only €25. In her exhibition FYSIE, Lilian van Veen shows us a selection of her work from the past five years. Pictures are inspired by nature and show details many of us will fail to notice. Her images are applied to materials or altered with colours adding an extra dimension. Looking at the pictures of Lilian van Veen is like taking a journey through nature.

Lilian van Veen (22-04-1957) graduated from the Rietveld Academy in Sculpture, Monumental Art and Painting. She has worked for years as an artist and exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad.

For her photography is more than just a picture on the wall. She likes to see her photography integrate with interior and exterior spaces. Thus, it becomes possible for photographic images to influence the atmosphere of spaces. You can give a space personality, create a safe place, or just add excitement and energy. Nature in all its aspects is Lilian’s main source of inspiration.

Come and discover what effect Lilian’s pictures will have on the atmosphere of our store.

Hatha yoga is a kind of physical yoga. The word Hatha comes from Ha, which means the sun, and tha, which means the moon. Hatha is the balance between the two hemispheres of the brain and the two energy centers of the human body.
